Dance photography is one of those art forms where timing, light, and emotion collide. Every dancer knows that a single leap or turn can tell a story — and at Tals Studio, our goal is to freeze that story in its most powerful form.
Unlike standard portrait photography, dance photography is choreography through the camera lens. It’s not only about technique — it’s about rhythm, trust, and collaboration. Each shoot becomes a creative duet between the dancer and the photographer.
The Experience in the Studio
When dancers arrive at our Midtown NYC studio on 115 W 29th Street, the atmosphere feels more like a rehearsal than a photo session. Soft lighting fills the space, music sets the tone, and our photographer, Zion Yoni Levy, begins by asking one simple question:
“What does your movement feel like?”
From there, each session unfolds organically. We capture jumps mid-air, graceful lines, expressive gestures, and quiet moments of stillness. Zion uses years of experience photographing performers to anticipate movement — knowing exactly when to press the shutter to catch the peak of a leap or the strength of a pose.
More Than Just a Photoshoot
Every dancer has a purpose behind their movement. Some are building professional portfolios for auditions or agencies; others simply want to preserve their connection to dance. Our 1-hour sessions give you the freedom to explore multiple outfits, lighting setups, and creative poses without feeling rushed.
