📏 ERAS Photo Requirements 2025: What You Need to Know
The 2025 ERAS application season is here—and with it comes a new round of guidelines. One of the most overlooked (yet critical) elements of your application is the ERAS photo. Submitting the wrong size, resolution, or format can result in an incomplete application.
At Tals Studio, we specialize in ERAS photography and stay up-to-date with current requirements. Here’s what you need to know about the ERAS photo requirements for 2025—and how to meet them perfectly.
As of the current AAMC guidelines, your photo must meet the following specs:
Dimensions: 2.5 x 3.5 inches
Resolution: 150 dpi (JPEG format)
File Size: Not to exceed 100 KB
Background: Plain, light-colored background (typically white, gray, or light blue)
Attire: Professional dress—typically a suit or blazer
Framing: Head and shoulders only, eyes facing the camera
Expression: Neutral or slight smile
No accessories or distractions (i.e., no hats, sunglasses, or busy backgrounds)
📷 Why a DIY Photo Can Hurt Your Application
Taking your own photo might sound easy—but it's risky. Incorrect size, lighting, shadows, or background will flag your application. Worse, if the file is too large or formatted wrong, it can get rejected entirely.
That’s why hundreds of NYC medical students rely on Tals Studio for fast, professional, and ERAS-compliant headshots with same-day turnaround.
